There are three programmes – Active Leaders, Junior Active Leaders and Trainer Accreditation. The Active Leader and Trainer Accreditation courses carry 10 CPD (continued professional development) points.
Courses take place all year round, led by experienced trainers. The Active Leader and Trainer Accreditation courses can be delivered in a virtual format.
Aimed at young people in Year 10 upwards
The course includes CPR and first aid awareness, basic safeguarding and risk management, preparation, planning, communication, marketing, budgeting, hands-on delivery and CV development.
Each trainee receives printed course materials and a t-shirt. At the end of the course each Active Leader receives a reference, certificate, 10 CPD points and a pin badge.
Sessions aim to be 70% practical with an emphasis on fun, teamwork, problem solving and interactive engagement. The course takes 25 hours and each trainee progresses individually. Trainers provide encouragement, supervision and feedback.
The course can be adapted for those in further education, training and apprenticeships and can include specific focus on overcoming social inclusion, promoting emotional well-being and fulfilling work placement requirements.
Junior Active Leaders
Aimed at primary school children in Years 5 and 6. It develops activity ambassadors, leaders of playground activities and independent, confident, responsible role models.
Each trainee receives printed course materials and a t-shirt. At the end of the course each Junior Active Leader receives a report, certificate and pin badge.
Sessions are 70% practical, centred round creating games and leading sessions for younger pupils with an emphasis on teamwork, confidence building and trainee led learning. The course lasts 20 hours and each trainee progresses individually.

Active Leader trainers are qualified, experienced professionals, with their backgrounds spanning teaching, coaching, leadership training, sport, activity camp management and working with young people. Pre-Accreditation requirements and experience are listed here
All those wishing to become accredited Active Leader trainers must evidence past experience, hold a current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate and an up to date first aid qualification.
Trainer Accreditation courses can be delivered in person or virtually.
Each accredited trainer receives a Trainer Manual, session plans, slides to support course delivery and at the end of the accreditation course a certificate and 10 CPD points.
The course takes 4-6 hours depending on experience and content required.
